For the ballon by Joy Nobility

FOR THE BALLOON
At about 7:10 on a Saturday morning in December, there was a lot
of noise in the house; women cooking variety of meals, young girls
were cleaning and tidying up, young men ran errands, children
went about playing and having fun, the aged ones kept blessing all
that worked so hard. The entire household had waited for this
day- the marriage ceremony the first grandchild/daughter. What a
beautiful day!
In the midst of all these activities, I spotted my little cousin of
about 2 years old run out of the house, and headed to the road
which vehicles and bikes traverse in order to reach the vehicle
been decorated to convey the bride to the venue- this vehicle
stood across the road. He crossed the road successfully, and that
sight threw all into fear and everyone screamed. He was brought
back in and given diverse toys, played with, and even scolded on,
but this did not change his plan as he attempted this two more
times, on his third move, we heard him singing “bolon bolon”,
meaning “balloon” in Nigerian English (pigin). And it finally
occurred to us that the balloons on the car got his attention,
hence he did not mind taking the risk, in fact, it was no risk to him,
neither were the toys and scolding enough to distract him.
Eventually, a balloon was given to him and that settled the case.
Oh! Why do we not go about our vision with so much passion and
vigor? Oh! That we run towards the mark set ahead of us without
been distracted by other pleasures (not minding how minute or
seemingly better they are compared to our life’s goals). Oh! That
we run towards the vision without picturing the challenges as
challenges, but see them as decorations that make our story more
beautiful and interesting. Scriptures says “…but for the glory set
before Him, He endured the cross…”. It also says “…though I walk
through the valley of SHADOW of death…”. It is not death itself,
but its shadow. In order words, these “challenges” ain’t going to
break you, they are but shadows. You need to cross them to get to
your goal.
Some of us do not even know what we want. The little boy knew
what he wanted, and nothing could replace it, neither could he be
distracted. The only thing which satisfied him was getting what he
wanted. When you do not know what you want, everything in
your face becomes your desire, and such a person can be
knocked out of life’s race easily.
What is your vision? What is your goal? What do you see? What do
you aim at? What do you want to achieve? “…write down the
vision, make it plain…”. A man without a vision runs around
blindly, hence end up frustrated and unfulfilled. “Where there is
no vision, the people perish”.
What is your vision? How well are you running towards it? Let’s
make our lives rich and fulfilling, and by extension, the society
itself. Have a beautiful December.
