ONE ON ONE WITH CEO RADIANT COUTURE

 1. Could you share the vision and story behind the founding of your fashion brand?

Radiant Couture was established with a clear vision: to revolutionize the Nigerian fashion landscape by offering high-quality, professional fashion training and producing unisex ready-to-wear garments using indigenous textiles. Founded over 15 years ago, the brand emerged out of a need to provide credible alternatives to the influx of substandard imported clothing in Nigeria.

Our ready-to-wear collections are 100% made-in-Nigeria products, serving both the local and international markets. We are committed to youth empowerment, job creation, and entrepreneurship by equipping young Nigerians with practical skills and business acumen through our fashion academy.

Our long-term goal is to establish a fashion label that meets the aesthetic and functional clothing needs of men and women globally. Through our creative pieces, we actively promote African heritage by integrating local fabrics like Adire, Aso-Oke, and Ankara— transforming them into globally appealing fashion statements. We are currently at a growth stage, scaling our operations and expanding our reach.

2. What sets your brand apart from others in the fashion industry?

Radiant Couture distinguishes itself through its deep commitment to indigenous innovation and social impact. Our brand focuses on manufacturing unisex ready-to-wear pieces that are not only stylish and affordable but also made entirely from local Nigerian fabrics

. This approach not only preserves our cultural heritage but also boosts local economies. We also run a professionally structured fashion training programmed, serving corps members, youth, and adults through our SAED-accredited academy.

This initiative directly addresses youth unemployment by equipping participants with employable and entrepreneurial fashion skills.

 3. What significant challenges have you faced in growing and sustaining your brand, and how have you overcome them?

One of our greatest challenges has been penetrating a market that is highly dependent on mass-produced, imported fashion items. To remain competitive, we’ve had to carefully study consumer trends, pricing sensitivities, and buying behaviours.

Our solution was to strategically position Radiant Couture as a culturally rooted, socially responsible brand that caters to a broad audience with affordable, high-quality alternatives. We mirror global fashion trends and interpret them using local fabrics like Aso-Oke, Adire, and Ankara, employing simplified production techniques that allow us to offer budget-friendly options without compromising style or quality. This has enabled us to bridge the gap between high fashion and everyday affordability.

 4. Can you discuss the creative process behind the design of your

collections?

Our design process is both artistic and strategic. It begins with ideation and concept sketching based on cultural inspiration and trend analysis. We then move into the fabric selection phase—carefully choosing textures, patterns, and colors that align with our creative vision and cultural ethos.

Next comes pattern making, where designs are mathematically translated into templates. We prototype our pieces for fit and function before moving into small-batch production. Data from customer feedback, seasonal insights, and market trends are incorporated throughout this process to ensure the final collection is innovative, relevant, and commercially viable.

 5. How does your brand cater to diverse body types and sizes?

At Radiant Couture, inclusivity is not an afterthought—it is foundational to our brand. We design garments that accommodate all body types, from petite to plus-size, ensuring that fashion is accessible and empowering for everyone.

Our collections often feature universally flattering silhouettes such as A-line cuts, empire waistlines, and wrap styles. Additionally, we incorporate virtual fitting tools and AI-powered sizing recommendations to assist online shoppers in finding their ideal fit. Our campaign imagery also highlights diverse models, celebrating different body shapes and sizes to promote representation in fashion.

  6. Can you discuss any collaborations or partnerships your brand has engaged in and their impact?

Radiant Couture has actively pursued strategic partnerships that align with our mission of empowerment and cultural advancement. We are an accredited trainer under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmed and have trained over 2,000 corps members since 2015. We also collaborate with the First Technical University, Nigeria, through which we participated in the Oyo State Government Youth Empowerment and Contract Recruitment Programme —training over 500 young people.

Our partnership with the Triumphant Life Impact Initiative (a non-profit organization) enables us to award fully funded fashion scholarships to 10 young women each year. These collaborations have extended our impact, allowing us to touch lives across educational, governmental, and non-profit sectors.

7. What is your brand’s approach to incorporating trends while maintaining a timeless appeal?

Our approach is rooted in balance. We stay abreast of global and local trends through fashion expos, runway analysis, and digital forecasting tools, but we interpret these trends through the lens of cultural authenticity and lasting design  principles.

Radiant Couture emphasizes timeless craftsmanship over fast fashion. We design with longevity in mind, choosing classic silhouettes and quality fabrics that remain relevant beyond seasonal shifts. Our strong brand identity is supported by a customer-first approach, allowing us to remain trend-responsive without losing the essence of who we are.

8. How does your brand stay relevant in an ever-changing industry and market?

At Radiant Couture, we stay relevant by embracing innovation, tracking evolving fashion trends, and listening to our customers. We actively engage with industry developments, participate in fashion expos, and showcase our collections on runways to increase visibility and maintain relevance.

Our strong online presence—especially across Instagram, WhatsApp, and fashion-focused e-commerce platforms—allows us to reach broader markets. Excellent customer service, consistency in quality, and a focus on Afrocentric storytelling also help position us as a distinctive and forward-thinking brand.

 9. What are the key values and principles that guide your brand’s business decisions?

Our brand is anchored on inclusivity, authenticity, sustainability, and community empowerment. We design garments that are accessible, comfortable, and suitable for a wide range of body types.

All our business decisions are informed by data—we regularly conduct market surveys and review customer feedback to ensure our strategies reflect actual needs. Integrity, customer satisfaction, and cultural relevance sit at the core of how we operate and expand.

10. How do you navigate the balance between maintaining brand identity and adapting to evolving consumer preferences?

We preserve our brand identity by continuously honouring our Afrocentric heritage whilst embracing strategic evolution in our design. Our core values—exceptional craftsmanship, inclusiveness, and cultural storytelling—remain constant. We respond to market intelligence and consumer insights, leveraging digital engagement and sustainable initiatives to stay innovative, without losing the soul of who we are.

 11. Can you share the strategies your brand employs to connect with and engage its target audience?

Our target audience includes men, women, children, and expectant and nursing mothers—reflecting the diversity of society. To connect effectively, we utilise platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to showcase behind-the-scenes content and share our brand journey. We reward customer loyalty with exclusive discounts and referral incentives. Additionally, our fashion empowerment programmes foster community connection, positioning Radiant as a lifestyle movement—not just a clothing brand.

 12. How does your brand approach pricing to ensure both accessibility and quality?

We carefully manage our pricing by maintaining high production standards while ensuring cost efficiency. Our pricing model is tiered to accommodate different income levels. We offer affordable ranges for the broader market, while still curating premium collections for more discerning clients. Ultimately, the quality, cultural depth, and durability of our products provide excellent value, ensuring customers feel their investment is worthwhile.

 13. How do you see your brand evolving in the next 5–10 years?

Radiant Couture is primed for global expansion over the next decade. We intend to embrace technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) for trend forecasting, inventory optimisation, and customer personalisation. Sustainability is also central to our future—integrating eco-friendly fabrics and ethical manufacturing across our operations. Moreover, we plan to launch an international training academy to amplify our empowerment mission and position Radiant Couture as a global leader in Afrocentric fashion innovation.

 14. Can you discuss any unique or signature elements that consistently appear in your designs?

Our hallmark is our authentic celebration of African heritage. We consistently incorporate indigenous Nigerian textiles—Adire, Aso-Oke, and Ankara—into our ready to-wear collections. These fabrics are not only materials but cultural expressions woven into fashion. Our design language is marked by bold prints, contemporary cuts, and unisex adaptability, offering stylish, homegrown alternatives to foreign imports while showcasing Nigerian craftsmanship on the world stage.

 15. Could you talk about any technological innovations your brand has embraced in its operations and product development?

Technology plays a pivotal role in our operations. We use digital illustration software to streamline prototyping and reduce time to market. Our team is exploring 3D printing for custom detailing and is currently integrating AI-driven analytics to forecast trends and manage inventory more effectively. These innovations help reduce waste, enhance efficiency, and improve the accuracy of our fit and design.

 16. What are some defining moments in your brand’s history that have shaped its identity and trajectory?

Several defining milestones have shaped Radiant Couture. Becoming an accredited NYSC SAED trainer in 2015 enabled us to empower over 2,000 corps members in fashion design and entrepreneurship. Collaborating with First Technical University and the Oyo State Government expanded our reach further, enabling structured youth training and job creation.

Showcasing at prominent events like the Ibadan Bridal Fashion Weekend and El Amor Fashion Show gave visibility to our use of indigenous fabrics.

Launching Radiant Fashion Academy marked our shift into structured education, while our ready-to-wear line— 100% made in Nigeria—cemented our place in both local and diaspora markets.

Our move into digital platforms and e-learning has extended our global reach, positioning Radiant Couture not just as a brand but as a cultural and educational movement.

 17. Can you share any upcoming projects or endeavors your brand is

particularly excited about? One of our most exciting initiatives is our application for the UK Global Talent Visa. This will enable us to collaborate with creatives abroad, mentor emerging designers, and contribute actively to the UK’s thriving fashion sector.

We are also preparing to launch a virtual training platform to empower aspiring African designers worldwide. This is a major step towards our dream of becoming a continental hub for Afrocentric fashion education and innovation.

18. What are some long-term goals and aspirations your brand is working towards?

Radiant Couture aims to be a globally respected brand synonymous with cultural authenticity, innovation, and excellence.

Our goals include opening flagship stores in key fashion cities, expanding into sustainable product development, and building a pan African creative hub to train the next generation of designers.

Financially, we’re focused on optimizing our supply chain, diversifying revenue streams, and ensuring long-term scalability and social impact.

 19. How has your fashion brand contributed to youth empowerment, training, or mentorship in Nigeria or beyond?

Youth empowerment is at the heart of Radiant Fashion Academy. Since its inception, I’ve focused on using fashion as a tool for transformation.

Through our work with NYSC’s SAED programme, I’ve had the privilege of training hundreds of corps members across Oyo State, many of whom have gone on to launch their own fashion ventures or become self-reliant.

I also mentor out-of-school youth and young graduates, offering them both creative direction and business guidance. Seeing them thrive gives me deep fulfilment and fuels my commitment to keep teaching and evolving.

 20. Have any of your designs or students received awards, recognition, or features in notable publications or platforms?

Yes, both I and my students have received several recognitions over the years. My brand, Radiant Couture, was featured during the prestigious Ibadan Bridal Fashion Weekend 2023.

I’ve been nominated for youth empowerment and creative entrepreneurship awards, and I’ve had students whose works have been showcased in local fashion exhibitions, social platforms, and in notable blogs like The CEO Magazine. These affirmations always remind me that the work we do is seen and impactful.

 21. Do you have plans to expand your brand internationally, or collaborate with institutions abroad?

Absolutely. I believe creativity should not be limited by geography. I’m already in the process of building relationships with UK-based institutions like the London College of Fashion and organizations supporting skills development in the creative industries.

One of my goals is to set up a training hub or collaborative residency program in the UK where I can teach, mentor, and promote Afrocentric fashion in a structured, inclusive way.

I also look forward to contributing to vocational initiatives that prepare young people for careers in sustainable, culturally diverse fashion.

 22. How do you see your work contributing to the UK’s fashion ecosystem, especially in terms of skills transfer, innovation, or diversity?

My work offers a bridge between African craftsmanship and global creative standards. I bring over 16 years of hands-on fashion experience and technical training expertise. As a certified trainer, I’m confident I can contribute to curriculum development, training delivery, and mentoring schemes in the UK — especially for underserved or minority groups.

My approach is practical, inclusive, and entrepreneurial. I also believe the UK can benefit from the unique storytelling embedded in Afrocentric design, which adds richness to the global fashion narrative.

 23. What feedback have you received from clients, collaborators, or students that has affirmed your brand’s value or mission?

The feedback I receive is incredibly humbling. Many of my students say Radiant gave them confidence, clarity, and the ability to build something they never thought possible.

I’ve had clients from the UK, US, and Europe commend my designs for their quality, cultural depth, and professionalism. NYSC officials and partners have referred to Radiant as one of the most reliable and results-driven fashion institutions they’ve worked with. These words keep me grounded and encouraged.
